This second film concentrates on the years 1940 - 1945, mapping Charles de Gaulle's transition from an embattled army officer, leading the Free French forces from London, to a major political figure and in particular, the friction leading up to the Casablanca Conference, where De Gaulle clashed with General Henri Giraud and US President Franklin D. Roosevelt over the future and sovereignty of post-war France.
